MINIMALLY INVASIVE SURGERY TRAINING FOR RURAL SURGEONS USING FRUGAL EQUIPMENT AND FULL PROCEDURAL SIMULATORS

Rural Surgery Innovations (RSI), the innovation arm of the Association of Rural Surgeons of India (ARSI), is transforming surgical access in low-resource settings through frugal, WHO-recognized MedTech solutions tailored for rural India and beyond.
Our flagship GILLS (Gas Insufflation-Less Laparoscopic Surgery) Device uses mechanical abdominal wall lift to enable safe, affordable minimally invasive surgery without CO₂ insufflation, expensive equipment, or reliable power/gas supply.
It is featured in the 2019 WHO Compendium of Innovative Medical Devices for Resource-Limited Settings. The Laptop Cystoscope, listed in the 2024 WHO Compendium, is a portable, low-cost USB-based system that connects to laptops or standard displays, bringing essential diagnostic and therapeutic urology services to peripheral centers without costly tower systems.
To build surgical competency, RSI offers a Full Procedural Surgical Simulator with replaceable organ modules for realistic hands-on training in laparoscopy, urology, and general surgery, alongside the VRiMS Video Library for immersive, structured procedural learning. CDCSO-approved devices support training that transitions directly to safe patient use for minor lower-tract urology and laparoscopic procedures.
CSR partnership will accelerate capacity building, reduce referral loads, empower rural surgeons, and enable sustainable, life-saving care closer to home.
